The new military unit will be commanded by Brigadier General Fernando Joya Duarte, appointed by order of President Uribe, will be responsible military operations in the departments of Tolima, Cauca and Valle to bar the way to the FARC.

Brigadier General Commander Fernando Joya Duarte Task Force Southern Tolima, born on June 1961 in the city of Cúcuta, Norte de Santander, married for 24 years with Martha Lucía Prieto Gonzalez whose union are Luis Fernando and Martha Patricia.
General Fernando Joya in the Pacific headed the Third Division, Pacific Navy battle group and 71 of the air force. His command post was in Chaparral and from this town on the southern Tolima coordinate military operations of Task Force South of Tolima.
